Development of the Pre-Departure course for the Study Abroad Office of USU
Pre-Departure Study Abroad Course
I went on a study abroad experience in Egypt in 2008 and felt the Study Abroad Office could have done a better job getting us ready for the process of studying abroad. This ended up as a full blown college course which was used as my final project of my graduate program. I did all the analysis, design, development, and implementation of the course. I did not do an evaluation due to a major policy change which required further updates. Dennis Kohler was my subject matter expert.
A few facts
- Done using backward design
- Behaviorism is the leading theory used
- Every USU student going abroad will have to first take my course
- Written in Blackboard Vista

My role
- Instructional Designer
- Developer
- Technical Writer
What would I have done differently?
This project was done exclusively in Blackboard Vista. Blackboard is a powerful yet awkward tool. Had I to do it again I would have done it in Moodle.
