Evaluation of the relationship between USU and the Dominican Republic
Utah State University and the Dominican Republic
Utah State University has a working relationship with the Dominican Republic. A small team was hired by the University Provost Office to evualate the relationship and hopefully find a way to improve relations. I served as an evaluator on the project. There are four main analysis tools used:
First, an organization chart of SeeSCyT (the program inside the Dominican Republic; a full cultural audit; a timeline and flow chart; and finaly, a Force Field Analysis. The overall analysis model used was the Rummler and Brache Model from Rothwell, Hohne and King (2007).
A few facts
- Dominicans comprise the largest segment of international students at USU with the sole exception of China.
- American degrees carry a lot of clout inside the Dominican Republic.
- One of the biggest hinderances to technology inside the Dominican Republic are power outages.

Done Differently?
Our cultural audit was done with Dominican's in the United States. I would have prefered working with someone in the government which would have been more directly involved.
